"District 4 Hosts Film Screening for "Out Here"

Supervisor Allen was glad to host a screening of "Out Here" at the Davis Veterans Memorial Theatre on Thursday, May 8th. "Out Here" is a film which follows a member of West Sacramento's Community Outreach and Support team as he works to connect people experiencing homelessness with shelter and resources. The film is produced by Leslie Silver, a friend of Supervisor Allen, and directed by Lisa Klein.

Following the screening event, Leslie Silver moderated a discussion panel which included director Lisa Klein; Susan Marchant, the sister of an unhoused man; Kristina Calderon, a woman who was previously unsheltered with her children and now works for California Assemblymember Darshana Patel; and Natalia Santos, a UC Davis student who has experience with housing instability and works as a part of UC Davis' Aggie Compass Basic Needs Center.

The event also featured poetry and artwork from Richard Turk, a man experiencing homelessness and piano music James Dollson who was unhoused from 2011 to 2021 and current lives in permanent housing.

Supervisor Allen was glad that this event was able to shine a light on the struggles faced by those experiencing homelessness and the human stories behind the homelessness crisis."
